Jesus made the excruciating choice to take our place on the cross. Though his execution was no-doubt unjust, it is crucial to remember that Jesus was no victim. He chose to go through everything that he faced. He did it because he knew that the payoff far outweighed the cost. The value that he places on us, his beloved, was worth the price that he paid. So even as he was beaten, mocked, brutalized, and executed, he entirely believed that it was more than worth it. You are more than worth it.
Part 5 of our Lent series that invites us to discover (or re-discover) why Jesus' story matters, how this story impacts us, and how to make his story our story.

As a follower of Jesus, Peter exemplified failure more often than anything else. He talked a big game, but often proved that his bark was worse than his bite. In what could have been is defining moment, Peter repeatedly, passionately denied any association or relationship with Jesus on the night he was betrayed. In those moments, he did the unthinkable, betraying the man who had changed his life.
And in his mind, there was no coming back from that. What was done cannot be undone. But Jesus offered something unexpected: hope. Hope that Peter's failure did not have to define him. Hope that God could still use him. Hope that what felt like the end was only the beginning.
And Jesus is still doing that today...

As Jesus enters his final hours with his closest followers, he does something shocking as he leaves them with a critical lesson that he would soon demonstrate on the cross: that service and sacrifice, not power and prestige, were the marks of the Kingdom of Heaven. As Jesus shares his final meal with the disciples, Jesus took what was considered a position of weakness, a position of humiliation and used it to demonstrate that from here on out, everything would change.
