Prodigals, Week 4 - When You'd Rather See the Prodigal Burn

Prodigals is a series focused on all of us who have been wayward- whether you have run away from God, are a long-time stalwart, or somewhere in between. 

There are prodigals that break our hearts. We care deeply for them and long for them to return home. We pray daily for their salvation. But for many of us, there is another kind of prodigal. These are the prodigals we hate. These are the prodigals we loathe. These are the prodigals we would rather see burn. 

In the face of the deep anger and betrayal, the truth of the matter is that God loves those prodigals…and Jesus came to save those prodigals. This morning, we consider the story of Jonah and the heartbreaking personal story that changed Pastor Jordon’s life and his understanding of God’s love. We also consider what it might mean for us today. 

Prodigals, Week 3- The Prodigal CHURCH

Prodigals is a series focused on all of us who have been wayward- whether you have run away from God, are a long-time stalwart, or somewhere in between. 

Week 3 considers another unlikely prodigal: the prodigal CHURCH. Ssomewhere along the way the church has lost itself. But I’m not just talking about a phenomenon of churches today. I’m talking about churches over the last hundred years. Somewhere along the way, we have decided that church is about us. We have become proud, impatient, and full of conflict. The result is a church that is failing to fulfill the Great Commission. 

The call of the Father to his prodigal church is to come home, to become defined as a people who are full of love and hope, who are gentle and humble, who are patient, and who are peacemakers. It's time for the church to reconcile and to be the people God has called us to be!
